Responsibilities of Chairs

All Tilsner committees have at least one, and sometimes two, Chairs.

Basic Responsibilities of all Committee Chairs

1. All committee Chairs should hold regular meetings of their committee, to give Tilsner members a chance to participate. Tilsner committee Chairs are asked to have a meeting once every three months (once per quarter).

2. Committee Chairs should post an agenda for their meeting at least one week before the meeting is held.

3. Committee Chairs should ensure that attendance, and minutes are being taken at their meeting. Also, the Committee Chairs need to ensure that a copy of the minutes are given to the Tilsner Board Secretary.

4. Committee Chairs should do their best to ensure that the meeting flows smoothly, and that member questions and concerns are addressed during the meeting.

5. Committee Chairs should ensure that copies of all policies created at their committee are posted for the membership, before the policy is voted on at an All Cooperative meeting. Copies of the proposed new policy should also be given to the Board.

6. If a new policy is adopted by a positive vote of the Cooperative, the committee Chair should ensure that the Tilsner Board Secretary receives a copy of the new policy. A copy should also be given to the Management/Legal Documents committee.

7. Committee Chairs should attend Board and All Cooperative meetings frequently, to give updates on the work of their committee.

8. Committee Chairs have the authority to grant exceptions to policies if they feel this is necessary. The policy exception granted must be posted publicly at the Tilsner within 24 hours of the decision.

General Information about Tilsner Chairs

1. You do NOT have to be a Tilsner Board member to be a Committee Chair.

2. Having two committee Chairs is preferable, but a committee can function with only one Chair.
